Hall of Fame party from my recent Blue playthrough. Don't mind the birds, I never actually used them.
Mixed things a little bit this time - I always use Venusaur and Alakazam (they complement each other very well in game) but added Golem to the mix - and it proved to be a fantastic wall and a rival-killer early to mid game.
When I reached Celadon I went straight for Rocket Hideout and Pokemon Tower right after that, so that I could get to Fuchsia as soon as possible. Got a Super Rod and HM slave Krabby on a detour, went through Cycling Road, got Surf, beat Koga, went to Seafoam Islands to get Staryu, gave it Thunderbolt, Ice Beam and Surf and got back to mainland to get some experience for it from Routes 12-15, full of Fishermen and Bird Keepers. Then I went to Silph and continued as normal.
Never had a smoother playthrough of this game. One problem that I had though, and this is a recurring thing every time I play Gen 1, is that I'm underleveled for Elite Four (52-55 this playthrough). It's not a problem, mind you - the team is good enough that it can withstand battles with opponents up to ten levels higher. I just wonder why that is, since I beat all trainers in the region, barely ever ran away from wild encounters and the four main Pokemon were the only ones to get the experience from battles in the entire playthrough. Could be that Starmie has the Slow exp. growth type, and I used it a lot, especially in Silph, Pokemon Mansion and Victory Road.
