>>54839719>>54839733I find the seemingly dwindling ability of the average Western internet user to distinct fiction from reality very concerning, honestly. I'm worried for these people from a purely psychological perspective. That cannot be mentally healthy.
I think it's mostly younger people (<25, maybe even <20) who have this problem. I'm guessing they grew up (almost exclusively) online, specifically on algorithm based websites like tumblr and Twitter that are literally engineered to create your own little personal echo chamber. Maybe that twisted their objective view on reality because almost everything they saw was tailored towards their own personal tastes, (political) opinions, personality quirks etc. That "coddled" them too much or something, and now they can't handle anything that isn't content they like, no matter if fictional or not cause it doesn't even make a difference to them anymore.
Either way, whatever the cause is, it's weirding me out. Being able to go "none of this is real and/or doesn't actually affect me" and step away when I notice something (online) upsets me in any way is like the only thing that keeps me sane. I can't imagine how fucked people are who do the literal opposite and engage with it nonstop instead. Jesus Christ.
But I don't wanna derail the thread any further either. Tbh I am mostly mad that "antis" are so militant and obsessed with meaningless internet culture crusades that they harass Japanese artists, which ironically loops back to being an ignorant asshole who doesn't respect other people's cultures.
Thank you guys for being there and being reasonable and
relatively sane degenerates <3
