I remember the anime going back and forth being broadcast by Kids WB and Cartoon Network when the Indigo League had consistently been broadcast on one channel (UPN iirc). Remember that this was all before broadband Internet or even DVD players.

RS were the first games produced after the Pokemon brand became a corporate entity under Pokemon Inc. (now TPCI), so that's why there was a huge push of spinoff games and content rather than merely licensed tie-ins like there had been with Gens 1 and 2.
