So I can definitely see the enjoyment in competitive Pokemon.
That said, I really don't understand why anyone would choose to take the series seriously as a competitive game. There's imply far too much RNG involved, and yes, while the more skilled player will always come out on top over a large enough sample size, on a game-to-game basis it's so incredibly common for games to be decided solely on a single miss, crit, secondary effect proc, etc that it's utterly laughable. While lots of other competitive games have RNG elements like CS's bullet spread or Dota's evasion and crit mechanics, the games take place over such a long amount of time and with so many dice rolled that it's very rare for a single instance of RNG to even influence a match, much less decide it.
Random battles and casual ladder shenanigans are more than enough for me, trying to compete in tournaments just seems like it's guaranteed to cause a huge amount of stress and frustration.
