While my absolute favorite is Bellsprout, my second has to be Tangrowth. While Bellsprout may not always find a place on my team due to being a first-stager, Tangrowth proudly picks up the slack.
I'll go on the record as saying that I never really liked Tangela. Finding him back in the day was tricky, and he wasn't exactly anything special. So when I first saw Tangrowth, I wasn't amazed. It just looked goofy and a little strange, much like many of the added evolutions from Gen IV.
Then, on a whim, I decided to use him anyway. And my god did he slap the shits of everything in his path. The more he annihilated, the more I began to see his goofiness in an endearing way. Now I can't even bear to think of making a competitive team without Tangrowth somewhere on the roster.
