You need only rename the updated textures to the same name as the original, then put them into to a folder inside the "Load" folder named after the game ID. There are no practical limits so long as your machine can manage it, 4096 x 4096's are a-okay for sure. I've been considering doing a basic upscale+replace for Mt. Battle, since it is only a few types of ares.
