In the same way that artists are trained in composition and perspective, many of them will naturally draw coral when designing an underwater scene without even thinking about what coral is, to them it's just like an underwater tree or something, something that makes the scene more pleasant to look at.
Same is true for butterflies and all your other examples. I know you don't like this answer because you're a math brained autist who isn't built for fiction or art or dreams, but what I'm saying is right and one day you're going to have to deal with that.
