It's average, but probably the worst mainline game so far. 6/10 at best.
It's ok to enjoy it though, and there are good and bad aspects to it.
PROS
>QoL changes in UI, gameplay
>Galar is actually a pretty cool region
>most of the new Pokemon are pretty good, some even great, but of course this is ultimately subjective
>the music is unironically the best the series has ever had, especially the Stow-on-Side theme
>Wild Area is a good idea
>Good rivals with interesting character development (for a Pokemon game)
>wild Pokemon levelling curve actually has challenge to it
>curry minigame is useful
>Gyms being sporting events is great for the worldbuilding
>Coalossal is fucking awesome
CONS
>no NatDex. It's fine if you can't obtain all the Pokemon in-game, but there's no excuse for not having at least the model data and shipping it out without a ready way to transfer up
>Galar towns are really barebones, little to no side activities (bring back the Game Corner)
>not a graphics autist but it's not great
>where you can walk vs what you see is very limiting. SM also had this problem, and I think it's due to the realism of 3d
>story is obviously rushes, things happen without you offscreen
>painfully little exploration, NPCs constantly lead you around like a little ducky on a string. There's a reason there's so much comfy Sinnoh art, it's because that region's games allow you many moments of contemplative solitude
>No dungeons. Designing around the "mobile game generation" of kids is a shitty practice and shows a shitty worldview on children. Kids are a lot smarter than you think, give them a challenge.
>Gamefreak did lie.
>postgame isn't good
>many of the houses are one-room copypastes
>Wild Area is a lot smaller, flatter, and emptier than expected, constantly changing weather is jarring
>dynamax isn't interesting. Should've stuck with Megas
>aside from ingredients, curry game is too shallow
>some new Pokemon really could have been polished more.
