Pokémon is 0% skill, being turn and RNG based.
It's all strategy and yomi.
Smogon basically breaks everything down about Pokémon and provides lazy dull witted people with optimal strategies, making 90% of the job for them.
It also promotes the standardization of teams as people keep using the upper tier pokémons.
The best analogy I could come up with is a book report.
A regular guy will read the book two or three times, then use his wits to analyze and interpret the text and put into words for his report, then get a B or C - and if you worked really hard, a A.
The smogon attitude would be to get a pre-made analyze of the book online and write it down then get an A+.
