I've had three big ideas floating around
>Double the defensive stats of Legendary Pokemon while trying to capture them, and you can't even throw a Pokeball until they're at half HP
>Individual Pokemon have unique mechanics and advantages based on the environment you fight on (ex. cave-dwelling Pokemon don't lose accuracy in caves, swimming Pokemon lose speed on land and vice versa)
>EVs are completely reworked, so that one Attack and one Defense stat can be boosted to a much higher point than they are now with HP and Speed working how they do now(ex. Ledian can effectively have 120 Attack, while something like Rhyperior could only get up to 160 Attack, but can instead be boosted up to 110 Special Attack)
The point is to have the environment play more of a factor than a pretty set piece, and to let a player use Pokemon even if they aren't the best Stat-wise while also injecting the meta with more variety.
