That said, your statement could be said about many games.
The game is certainly prettier and runs with graphics and sound you just can't get on a DS.
Despite thinking the 3DS is hardly different, it is more powerful than the DS. The cartridges are also more powerful. Asking them to make it work on the DS is asking them to build up the game from scratch, leaving out pieces that couldn't fit. You're left with a watered down game that will leave those stuck with it complaining and wondering why they can't have the 3DS content.
Seriously, people. The 3DS has been out for over 2 years, now. You knew this was coming. You've had time to prepare.
And to those complaining that you can't pirate the game, you are literally whining "I hate GameFreak because they won't let me steal from them."
