Yokai Watch died because it was nothing more than a seasonal fad with little international appeal. Pokemon at least had some semblance of a plot so that viewers could stay around for the meta stuff like league progression. Yokai Watch has none of that. Also Yokai Watch Shadowside designs do not look cool. Yokai Watch is a lame show and the monsters would never appeal to a more teenage audience but it does work well for children I don't deny that. It failed not because it tried to be edgy but because they did a bad job at it. Now look at picrelated. All I see is some lame Scooby Doo(not that you'd know what Scooby Doo is) tier non comedic shit. When you compare it to sth like XYZ well no surprise it's gonna fail. YKW needed some Persona/OG YugiOh tier edginess to top off XY, not this cosmetic fake "scary stuff" the executives tried being edgy for marketing purposes and implemented some cosmetic "edgy" changes they didn't put their souls and creativity into making a "really kewl" product. That's why YKW failed. For example,OG Bakugan played it right, they went for the over the top MC designs, cool monsters and shit. Basically if you want to go kewl, you gotta commit to it. You can't just slap a couple of crappy "scary" designs that don't even look "kewl" and call it edgy. You have no idea what edginess is all about. It's about everything looking powerful and full of this fighting energy and stuff dude if you don't get the edgy aesthetic I can't explain it to you. XY managed to handle being kewl while staying true to the Ashnime roots. Yokai Watch Shadowside didn't.
