Can we quit the "special types" meme please? The only "special types" I see around here is you guys. This was never deliberate, and it most certainly doesn't have any barring whatsoever on physical Types getting future Eevos.
All the Gen I and Gen IV Eevos are special Types because Eevee's concept is an animal who can change into many elements. So they chose all the traditional RPG elements, of course they were going to be special Types because traditional elements are usually beams of energy or whatever. It just happens to work out like that. So that's 5 down.
Umbreon was originally Poison. Fine it's not one but this clearly disproves they had any intention of adhering to special Types. And Fairy clearly WOULD be special but it never was anything so that also is dumb.
Which just leaves Espeon but eh, with only 1 left it was a roll of the dice if they would happen to choose a special or physical type.
