I also have a Shedinja with SD, Toxic, Shadow Ball, and Return for the Battle Frontier in Emerald. I'm currently trying to get the Gold symbol in the Battle Tower, I only use Shedinja for the 10th round.
Skarmory kind of sucks because it can't carry leftovers, I also hate when it dies to 1KO moves because it doesn't have sturdy.
I think Metagross is bad for the latter rounds because everything has Fire-Type moves and so my team (Blissey + the two dragons) ends up being very weak to the Ice-Type, especially to mons with either Sheer Cold + another Ice move or mons with Curse + Rest.
Any recommendations? I'm missing 4 Gold symbols, the Tower, Palace, Pike, and Pyramid.
