Given ORAS happened in Gen 6 and how Lyra and Dawn appeared/reappeared in the anime of the generations where their remakes took place (Gen 4 and Gen 8 respectively), it seems reasonable to assume that May would have also briefly returned (with Mega Blaziken on her team) to promote the Hoenn remakes.
Given how she developed a friendship with Serena in Journeys makes me believe the writers would have liked a plotline like that in XY.
