I'm surprised they haven't figured out an evergreen battle system and pokemon data by the DS era or had some sort of plan for the future. If preserving the battles and the pokemon data itself was impossible somehow, they could've done what showdown did and create some sort of battle sim side engine to base the later games off of. And they already were able to easily port 3D models & animations of the pokemon since X&Y even into the switch games, so there was no issue with making models over again clearly. If it wasn't the models & animations then it had to be programming the pokemon in the other games, and that could've been avoided if they didn't do all that shit over again every single time and just rely on an API battle system that could be developed internally at HQ, then downloaded and updated accordingly for new games. For fucks sake even an actual team of unpaid indie developers did exactly that for a fucking minecraft pokemon mod called Cobblemon. THERE IS NOTHING STOPPING GAMEFREAK FROM JUST SWIPING POKEMON SHOWDOWN'S CODE AND COPY PASTING IT INTO THEIR OWN GAMES GODDAMN, AND THE DEX WAS CUT JUST TO GIVE SHILLIZARD A MAKEOVER WHILE THE NEW GAMES LOOK AND RUN LIKE FUCKING HORSESHIT AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
