Like most games, on this site its flaws are exaggerated greatly. The lack of battle frontier is an understandable complaint, the free lai@s is somewhat debatable but you can always box it, the xp share and free heals/teleports do casualize a bit (though you can turn the xp share off) and though a little cringe at least the delta episode gave hoenn something to do after the credits besides garbbing the regis and playing a battle facility. The fact that they used the original rs teams in stead of the emerald ones for the gym leaders is a little disappointing.
But that's kind of it for flaws, and they dont, or shouldnt take away from all the cool shit they added, such as:
Gen 6 qol features; visible day night, physical special split, auto repel continuation prompt, infinite tms, amazing bottom screen functions, I'm sure theres more.
Getting the national dex before the elite 4, meaning the elites have better. More suiting and varied teams.
Dexnav allowing you to have mons with cool egg moves and perfect ivs without grinding eggs.
Expanded secret bases with online functionality.
Elite 4 rematches where they all use megas.
Trainers eye rematches with most of the trainers in the region that actually scale up to higher levels and in which they use national Dex mons.
Soaring allowing for capture of almost all legendaries up to that point.
Expanded evil team lore and overall very good character redesigns for their members.
I'm sure theres more that im missing,
But just the addition of the split and the better movesets make it better than gen 3 in my opinion. Crawdaunt with physical crunch (and it actually learns crunch) physical water moves on gyarados, physical dark moves on absol etc. If I play hoenn I play oras. Emerald is still a unique and valid game I'm not shitting on that. And it still exists so anyone who wants to can play it. But no one can deny that oras had a lot of really cool shit and shouldnt be dismissed because of its flaws.
