While I do agree that the shading in the first years of Digimon was a little to much at times, it did become good quality shading that let you see the details of the form of their body afterwards. Pokemon is just put clearer circles above, darker circles below and call it a day. It did create some bad shadings like, to cite one example among others, Grookey. Its mouth is suppose to be prominent, but the shading follow the same curvature, its right arm has the shadow of nothing. You could say it's the shadow of its body but it can't, because, due to some clearer color on its mouth and forehead, we know there is a light in front of him and being the shadow of the body would also mean that the whole arm should be in the dark. The clean curvatire also make them look like they're made of plastic despite being a mammal.
