I was quite excited for the animated sprites and I replayed the shit out of BW and had a great time with BW2 as well. The climaxes in those games were good. My friends into the series as well liked them too. Gen 5 is not a flop, it just sold less than other gens.
I guess Unova did age a bit worse than Sinnoh. These days a lot more people are willing to shit on the story. Team Plasma gets a lot of criticism, shitposting about the cutscenes in Alola and Galar has led some to attack Unova's cutscenes too, and the designs were always controversial. But overall I must say if you like Sinnoh I don't get why you wouldn't like Unova and vice versa. Both have big postgames, cool fights, and good exploration.
