Then comes along Serena with a flashback to Ash's childhood where she falls in love with him. All those different fandoms had to face the reality that shipping was official, and a direct affront to all their fantasies, fan fiction and fanart. Serena directly steamrolled over the boundary they had taken for granted. That's why she gets the most extreme kind of attention, both positive and negative. She is a violation.
Gamerena I would have to contest. I think she's universally loved at least for looks. It's more the games themselves that people attack. Even Shauna gets more hate. Gamerena is just kind of there.
