>>53871667I prefer to divide things by a sort of director set of eras. Obviously with Masuda's era most prominently not all the games were directed by him, but given the ones that weren't served to build on ones he had directed the influence of those core games (RS, DP & BW) is still felt to varying degrees. I think there is also a tendency towards particular storytelling in each era, even when Ohmori is the director there's a difference in the approach of the plot between say ORAS (the Delta Episode) and SM compared to SwSh and again compared to SV, although all four compared to Masuda or Tajiri's games are more similar to each other than the other directors' games.
You can even look at it with how gameplay focus shifted, the way the games in the Masuda era handled generational shifts in the gameplay was quite different to Tajiri or Ohmori's which took a different approach. If we got more generations with Tajiri it'd be interesting to see the full extent of what sorts of changes he'd make but at least we get a decent view between how Masuda and Ohmori's eras handled gameplay changes.
I've also distinguished PLA and SV from the rest of the Co-Director Era in part cause of their Open-World but I think there is also a slight shift with how the gameplay and story is being done even compared to their previous games, would be good to get a better understanding with more games in that open-world sub-era otherwise I could just be over emphasizing traits specific to PLA and SV that won't carry through into any future Legends games or Gen X.
