Okay here's what we do. At some point during the game, the player acquires a "Rosetta Sphere" at the bottom of some ancient dungeon; "Temple of Babel" or something. It is said to be able to unlock the hidden power of the Unown. This key item will boost their stats by 5 points for every kind of Unown registered in the Pokédex, distributed as follows:
HP: 48 -> 48
Atk: 72 -> 100 (+28)
Def: 48 -> 76 (+28)
SpA: 72 -> 100 (+28)
SpD: 48 -> 76 (+28)
Spe: 48 -> 76 (+28)
BST: 336 -> 476
Once all of the Unown have been registered, lol sidequest reveals that the Rosetta Sphere is actually a container for a very powerful Mega Stone. The Unownite is then extracted from it and can be used to Mega Evolve any Unown holding it into pic related.
