>>41945577>>41945619I actually agree. Although the charmander line looks almost conclusively better than, say, any of the gen 5 starter lines, at least they were trying. Other than the fire on its tail, Charizard is a generic, toriyama-esque drawing of a dragon (I'd imagine because ken sugimori was playing follow-the-leader to toriyama's Dragon Quest Monsters). Any of Toriyama's actual dragon drawings either look way cooler or are way more interesting to look at, which just makes Charizard look bootleg as hell by comparison, especially if you grew up reading dragonball before playing/watching pokemon so nostalgia's not as much of a factor.
I do admit that there's a certain beauty in its simplicity, but that's only in the same way clip art is attractive in its simplicity; it's hardly anything to write home about.
