I considered power gem for a period but the only thing I'd really want it for is Volcarona, and that bug can take a power gem after a quiver dance so I threw it out. It's a bit late, but I think Ampharos really benefits from the extra speed since it hits so hard and it has STAB dragon pulse in addition to thunderbolt and focus miss.
The biggest issue mono electric has with Charizard X is that you only have one practical option to OHKO it and then you're forced into a guessing game between picking thunderbolt or dragon pulse depending on whether you think it's going to mega or not. Unfortunately it's just not something that's in your favor since if your opponent has Charizard out before you have Ampharos on the field, they could usually get a DD off and then wreak havoc. Even if you have Ampharos out beforehand you're still forced to guess between one attack or the other and picking the wrong one will typically mean you lose. It sucks.
I'll be rooting for you in the tournament to make top 8 but I hope you can do what I couldn't, and find a good way to kill off Charizard X.
