I mean sure, for the main story players will probably be restricted to use what we originally had in DP (or at best Platinum), but I have a hard time believing they wouldn't have gen 8 Pokemon in a mainline game released during gen 8. That sounds really stupid, even for Game Freak.
I hope it happens, seeing the meltdowns would be fun.
