Here's my thoughts on the subject at hand. Ash will have a team larger than 6 just like in B/W, but only slightly. The three Mega evolutions are the possible ones for Ash to have, but he's more than likely to have at least one. Charizard and heracross are obvious, and he could get a Lucario like the player does in game.
The three fairies below Clemont rotate and take up his final slot. Though technically his, they are primarily taken care of by Bonnie.
