When you think about it, Iris is probably going to be the current World Champion if the Ashime is still canon. Iris almost beat Cynthia even though Iris was only a serious trainer for like a single season or two, and she did that WITHOUT any gimmicks. If you really, really think about it, Iris is going to sweep the next PWC.
Considering she made it as far as she did WITHOUT gimmicks and with only a small portion of time spent as an actual trainer, another couple years is going to see her become unbeatable by even Ash with all his gimmicks and cheats.
Fuck, I doubt Iris would even NEED the gimmicks in her next run. Just raw getting-better over time will see her ascend beyond Cynthia, Leon and Ash. But taking a more experienced Iris AND slapping megas, z moves, and dynamax on top? Even Pikachu self-revive cheats won't be enough. I doubt even current World Champion Misty would be able to beat Iris. Iris would full sweep the competition.
Only end-of-series Roy or Tobias have a chance of dethroning her.
