>>39161146The difference is you can do it if you want to. You seem to forget that Pokemon as a series, and its mechanics, aren't exclusively designed around competitive multiplayer. Balance and game design considerations are also made for the audience of single player focused players (which is the greater majority).
The same applies to Megas too. A lot of the choices made for Megas, be it designs or the species chosen to get them, are very clearly made to be appealing before considering any balance factors.
You're right, the best Dynamaxers are going to be a select few, like with any mechanic in Pokemon (or really any game designed around having options, some will always be the best). But unlike Megas, you don't have to use those few to use the mechanic at all. For those that really want some specific, obscure Pokemon to be their ace and have a big visual thing, they can do it now. And that kind of thing makes a lot of people happy.
Personally I was really happy to have Porygon-Z get to be my hypemon this gen, Z-Conversion was fun and made him look cool.
