The rest of the world meta was still heavily match-up based, as in, pick 4 and the other 2 are used only and exclusively to patch a hole in that 4-mon-pick when your opponent has something that can exploit that hole. One example of Japan being more advanced than the rest of the world during 2015 was the JapanSand team archetype which when the West discovered and used to to win tourneys here as it was the brand new hot thing the nips had already abandoned and left behind for something else.
