They are not endemic to Alola due to the presence of Zygarde. When the world was bombarded by the radiation of The Ultimate Weapon some 3,000 years ago, Zygarde released a power of it's own to shield the islands from the effects of the radiation. Thus shielded, any evolutionary stones on the islands were prevented from metamorphosing into Mega Stones. However, as a an unintended side-effect, Zygarde's powers irradiated the island anyway, giving rise to the Totem Pokemon, Z-Crystals and Z-Moves, and giving the islands the strange ability to allow pokemon to radically adapt to the new ecosystem(Alolan Forms).
