It's obvious Gen 6 is where things went downhill and even Masuda confirmed such by outright stating the games would be geared more to superficial mobile experiences. People supposedly don't have "time" to enjoy a well made game with story anymore, and Game Freak after this wanted their releases to be on the timetable of a smartphone release.
People who state otherwise as a hate attempt on Gen 5 are just attempting to cope against already stated reasons for the decline of this franchise. You're free to dislike Gen 5, but don't pretend like it's the reason for issues now when it's not.
