>>48992608It's definitely strange considering the pretty much revealed all of Alola before that game came out, leaving a lot of people feeling underwhelmed with the final result. I think the only Pokemon they didn't reveal ahead of time were some of the ultra beasts, legendaries, and maybe one or two random evolutions/regionals but I feel like pretty much everybody got revealed otherwise. And then they went in the opposite direction with Galar and kept so much stuff secret that somebody else ended up leaking pretty much everything.
It's funny really, because they still haven't figured out the proper way to run a hype cycle after 25 years. Personally I think the way they revealed stuff for the older generations was perfect. They reveal the game super early in development, then drip feed new Pokemon by revealing them through various sources and merchandise, then as the game gets closer they start giving us just enough information to chew on for a while. I loved having two year long hype cycles where we had this beautiful mix of real information, speculation, real leaks, fake leaks and everything else. The lead up to generations 3, 4, 5 and 6 were just incredible because all we had to go on were screenshots and Corocoro scans. Now I feel like we're going in knowing too much which is making us underwhelmed or we don't know enough to shrug off our fears from what we have seen (which is the case with PLA)
