I liked US/UM for the story. I actually wanted to hate it but ended up liking it a lot.
Sw/Sh was meh. The professional sports shit made sense for the Pokemon world I guess and Dynamaxing grew on me. I think I liked it a lot more than I would if I played today because I was coming down off the high of really enjoying UM after swearing off Pokemon for like 6 years.
Would I recommend either? Not really. US/UM felt like a 3rd party core series game, like Colosseum. So If you're into that you might like US/UM.
Play Sw/Sh only if you like it's theme of giant Pokemon fights and Pokemon battling being treated like a pro sport. Otherwise its a total downgrade from SV in every way.
