Call me biased if you want because I like aomatsu but I thought it was extremely shitty all the build up and training for years to harness the powers and complete the goal they were tasked with after fixing their broken relationship and going literally through hell and beyond just to have them dissolve on the first attempt and tell their sob story that amounted to anything.
I loved Ruby and Sapphire during the RSE arc and was rooting for them. ORAS and the "will they will them not" and Ruby's neglecting attitude towards Sapphire just made lose all the interest I had in them. I hate these "will they will them not" narratives specially because Sapphire confessing Ruby back in RSE was during a pretty big moment that it's just impossible to forget. Stop blueballing the audience just for the sake of it.
At least the final was cute.
