With that said, it’s the most fun I have had in any 3D game, which is such a bizarre testament, but the ingredients carried the dish. The characters were great, the story was good, the better adaptation of open-world design made the experience slightly more seamless, and I actually shed a tear when I revisited the lake in Kitakami after completing the Indigo Disk and meeting Professor Turo.
Gamefreak clearly still got it, they just need to be nudged in a certain direction to get it absolutely perfect.
