The Academy sends you to Kitakami to celebrate a festival as an exchange program with Blueberry Academy.
You meet Suguri who shows you around the town and is friendly to you, then Zeiyu appears and she's a little mean to you.
You celebrate the statues of the three new Pokemon Mukidori, Fezandipiti and Okidogi who protected Kitakami land in the past.
While everyone is dancing in a parade with masks, Ogerpon appears and steals a new type of Herba Mystica that is offered to the statues.
Because you're champion, Suguri asks you to go to the three heroes temples and offering them the Herba Mystica to ask for help.
Zeiyu doesn't trust you and battles you, then goes to one of the temples on her own.
Suguri follows her but ends up in another temple.
Player chooses a temple of his liking and each character awakens one of the heroes.
They eat Herba Mystica and change into Hero Form (it's similar to the masks shown in the trailer).
Player fights Ogerpon with the three heroes but they can only be caught in their temple again after defeating Ogerpon.
Ogerpon battle is similar to a Raid, first you must defeat it in Mask Form and then you can catch it in Peace Form.
After the story the festival has activities you can do alone or with other players.
You can win rare objects like the Apricorn Balls.
The new Herba Mystica can be collected and used to make Tera Masks that unlock new forms for several Pokemon. Tera Mask gives Tera STAB for moves that are of the same type of non Tera Pokemon if their Tera Type is different. You can change your starter's Tera during the story. The Mask replaces the Tera Hat and is designed after the Pokemon that can have it. Paldea Starters, Tinkaton and Charizard are included among others. Korai/Mirai don't get a mask in first DLC, I think they get new form in second one.
