Pokemon black and white had awful pixel art?

For example, I remember how JAGGED everything looked, especially the pokemon in battle.

I also remember the terrible font! It was hard to read and awful on the eyes, and I have perfect vision. The text looked crammed in and ugly.

Why did the pixel art in pokemon BW look so terrible? To this day I do not understand.

The previous generation had pixel art that was clean and aesthetically pleasing.

What went wrong with BW?

Is there a way to use action replay on a R4 so that I can have constant repel or turn off random encounters at will?

My buddy just got himself a 3DS and Pokemon Black, and I'll be getting one soon. However, I dont know if I want to get Pokemon White or just wait or XY. I haven't played a pokemon game since Ruby and Im playing Crystal on eumlator right now, but I feel like I've missed a bit in the pokemon world. What I'm thinking of doing is getting white, playing that for a while, then picking up X or Y when it comes down in price and I'm somewhat familiar with some of the new pokemon. Thoughts?

So I need your help.
I found a place near where I live that is holding a tournament in a few weeks.
Problem is it's restricted to Gen 5 Pokemon and I don't know which ones are decent competitively.
Legendaries are banned except the Genies and Horsketeers and I have White 1 so no Therians but I'd probably feel bad if I went full tournymodo and used them anyway.
Help me build a team so I can at least go alright and not get wrecked by kids. I'm thinking my Archeops and maybe a Ferrothorn?
Oh also its double battles.
