It was already ugly, but they decided to make it uglier by giving it bigger thighs leading to an awkward idle pose and making its shoulder and head flames go out more to the sides than up so it looks shorter and fatter. They didn't even bother to give those flames an animation like with Rapidash's mane or Charmander's tail. They look like one of those fake fires that has a fan moving strips of fabric or plastic.
