It wasn’t a hoax, but you should be fine if you copy your SD files onto your computer, format your SD card to FAT32 instead of exFAT, then copy them back. This is because it’s a problem with the exFAT format, not the entire SD card. It also proves why the people affected are more likely to be people legit buying the game; most pirates and homebrewers use FAT32, because it’s less likely to bug out.
