I like Dragonair for what it has to offer. It's sleek, feminine, graceful looking. It's a very aesthetically pleasing Pokemon and I see why some people find it's evolution nonsensical or disturbing.
But Dragonite isn't meant to be pretty. I think he's meant to be a more traditional dragon. The kind of myth who's anger and might could level cities and towns. The more eastern dragons which Dratini and Dragonair doubtlessly draw inspiration from weren't viewed in the same light. Dragons have a completely different context in the east than they do the west, and keep in mind Dragonite was suppose to be the most powerful Pokemon next to Mewtwo.
At least I think his design makes sense. But I'm rambling like a fuckwad.
