>>51153160I was around when it came out. I understood the need for it and I was excited to see what it would create, but now Dark just seems the most tacked on type to most things that get in these days. People bitch about Fairy feeling unnecessary, but it has really come into its own the last few games. Meanwhile, I feel like the last generation that introduced Pokemon designed to actually be "Dark" was Generation 5; Bisharp, Hydreigon, Scrafty, Zoroark and Mandibuzz all ooze that "I'm a rat bastard but you're gonna love me anyway" vibe that Dark types need. Maybe it was the introduction of Fairy in Gen 6 that did it, but the only Dark types we've gotten since then that FEEL like a Dark type has been Yveltal and the Grimmsnarl line. Otherwise, most new Dark types have been regionals (same but "badder" type shit) or something whose design doesn't really give Dark type vibes but has the type anyway (Thievul, Malamar, Guzzlord, Zarzude, Urshifu, etc). I think it's interesting too that mono Dark type is still one of the rarer types to have, despite there being a lot of Dark types now; most Pokemon that have it have it as a secondary typing, and now there's actually more pure Fairy mons than there are pure Darks. That's just crazy to me. It's like they don't really know what to do with the type anymore or something?
