Actually it takes the exact same time to get to the exact same point of the exact same game on the gen 4 and gen 8 engines. Gen 4 isn't slow, your brain is.
And HMs in gen 4 are much more bearable than in gen 3 and gen 2, and it's still objectively better than removing them like gens 7+ did.
