I was about eight and was one of those kids who really tried to explain kid stuff to adults to get them to play with me. One day I took my gameboy out to my grandparent's house in the middle of the woods and showed silver to my grandpa. He really seemed to like it (or at least played along like he did) even though he was basically a luddite. I even showed him how to catch a pokemon and he caught a krabby for me, which ended up being a total bro. He's such a gruff, serious man, to bond with him like that felt amazing.
Pic related. He was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer last year. I told this story before and asked some friendly anons to draw Krabbys and it really cheered me up. If anyone remembers that, he ended up beating the hell out of cancer, but he ain't doing so good now. Just starting to succumb to his age. I'll be seeing him this weekend and I hope it's not for the last time.
