I think more pokemon should have deeper movepools honestly. it's the opposite problem to what you say. all the new mons get a signature move, ability or typing. if they lack those, then it's an evolution or form change gimmick or even just a design/stat spread/movepool that sets them apart. there are very few gen 7 and 8 mons that don't fit this archetype. Nickit breaks the mold here for sure, but it's the exception not the rule. all the old Pokémon lack a core design outside "it's a monster of this type that does this thing" and so they shared similar movepools or abilities for generations. that's why we get excited when they revisit old Pokémon bc it's actually making them stand out for once
