The animal at the top is called the European Badger. It happened when the Asian Badger spread to the west. It was hard for them to survive, so they developed tribes and became SUPER territorial. They're one of the very few species of badger who aren't solitary animals.
The one at the bottom is the Japanese Badger. Some time after the European Badger came into existence, some Asian Badgers figured out how to get to Japan. Japan had lots of food and few predators, so they became pretty chill.
While the European Badger isn't exactly the thing the Japanese Badger evolved from, both split off from a common ancestor (that was much more similar to the European version than the lazy Japanese fuck).
