Zmove is a bad mechanic because it makes one of your move so powerfull it eliminate one of the pokemon your opposant use, but that's it, it's one less poke and that's if you had a chance to use it.
But saying Dmax is better is extremely dishonest, you can lose a match and still sweep the opposant if you use your Dmax well, because it makes all your moves extremely powerfull AND boost your pokemon, so even at the end of the Dmax you have a beast that can do immense damage.
Dmax is by far the worst mechanic we ever had because of the power it gives to you.
