Well, since multiple pokemon is extremely challenging and would probably be costly, I'd stick with two, one I could cherish a ton, and the other for utility/battles that I would also love, but that wouldn't need too much food or necessities.
I'd get Raichu for a power source and as my cherish-mon, and I'd probably also get a Togekiss for flying and battle tank. That'd be it really.
