They're not much for battles (Despite the chef having some Pokemon who are more than willing to throw hands in a competitive match) rather, the Pokemon she keeps along for the ride are ones that help her with travel, adventuring.
Her Flygon for example, Shabao, is perfect when it comes to needing a magic dragon ride from place to place, though Shabao also comes with the caveat that she is exceedingly proud - Anyone calling her (self-proclaimed) strongest dragon title into question, she's ready to drop Draco Meteors down until either they admit she's right, or she cause too much destruction and needs to flee!
