>Contests are now mainstays. Maybe player customization can play a role on it like how on the anime people would wear costumes. Idk just an idea
>Completely optional sidequests to face tougher opponents, catch rarer pokemon or items. Stuff roaming legendaries and good old puzzles
>Graphicwise they could have the chibi overworld and then change to the normal looks in battle and during cutscenes. They should do an effort to make the overworld look better tho
>Just overall make it better looking like Link's Awakening remake, have some background animations to make the world feel more alive like wind blowing trees, falling leaves, uncatcheable wild pokemon roaming around
>Also bring back Dream World
