The good:
>Graphics are a step up from S/M, but Pokemon's always had bad prioritization for its graphical department.
>Towns are vast and expansive
And before anyone goes "mah Spikemuth," the idea of a town that's actually a dungeon is actually pretty sweet, hallway or not.
>Maxing is a nice compromise between Mega Evolutions and Z-Moves, and causes some Pokemon to be viable for coverage alone, making things simpler but keeping a lot of the core depth of the games
>Breeding is easier. Mints and bottle caps make whatever shiny you get viable.
>Max Raid Battles
>Music knows how to hype whenever it wants it to
>Fairy Gym is pretty cool.
>Tournament at the end confirms the "gym leaders have multiple teams" theory, plus boss callbacks are always cool.
The bad:
>Easy difficulty, even by Pokemon standards
>Has very apparent pacing issues at the beginning
>GTS has been cut, meaning that you're forced to rely on online communities more than ever before
>Wild Area doesn't have too much to explore, and a lot of the Pokemon in its sectors only spawn in certain weather conditions, which is entirely RNG and lasts a good while.
>Dex Cut makes it unattractive to people who have already built up their collection of Pokemon, and people who want to use certain mons like the starters.
>VGC is unbalanced. In other words, water is wet.
>Obtaining certain items relies on RNG a lot more than previous titles. I.E. For a Beast Ball, in order to get a second one, you have to go through the entire Champion battle again, then HOPE RNG gives you the Beast Ball for a prize and another fucking Wishing Piece.
>Stamp system cannot be manually refreshed until the game lets you refresh it, then only fetches a certain amount, often loading unrelated requests (such as 50 million League Card requests whenever you have it filtered for trade requests).
Personally, I don't think it's the worst in the series (that still goes to X/Y imo), but if someone told me they didn't like it, I'd get why.
